Applying Epoxy Over Paint
Latex and water-based paints are best and fast drying. The epoxy can go over them in about 24 hours. OIL-BASED paints take a LONG time to fully dry. If an oil-based paint is used, you must apply 3 coats of oil-based polyurethane to seal the surface before applying a seal coat of our epoxy. If you go directly over the oil-based paint and it is not completely dry, you run the risk of the epoxy not sticking to the surface and peeling off months later. All epoxy by nature has a slight amber color to it, which is not noticeable unless being poured over something completely white. This is also the same for oil-based polyurethane.
You will still do a seal coat over the paint followed by a flood coat.
